Konami ‘Trying Harder To Combat Cheating’

Thanks to Maremas for the heads up.

Today Konami posted on their facebook page they are trying harder to combat cheating in PES 2012 online competitions, and have successfully banned people already.

Read the full statement below:

IMPORTANT MESSAGE REG CHEATING: We play PES 2012 Online in the office and at home and just like you continue to experience some really bad sportsmanship. Let’s be clear on this: Cheating, intentional disconnecting, scoring own goals, none of this should be tolerated. We have to do and will do more to stop players ruining our experiences.

It’s an issue that runs deeper than PES, but we have already banned some cheaters and we’ll crack down harder. We’re also looking at additional measures so we, the real fans, can have an enjoyable online experience. We’ll report back, but in the meantime play fair and square even in the face of cheaters – for the love of the game!

I thought this would be about the AI cheating in offline. Seriously, it is disgusting. ANY AI player cuts through defences like butter. Not just that, but things plain go wrong – players misplacing simple passes, players being slow, not chasing the ball, not reacting to the ball moving close to them, you name it. They are not even spectacular goals – most goals are players running through 7-man crowds with the ball tied to their feet with string or a low cross that trickles through the legs of your defender (Puyol).

@IB So true, opposition players all become superhuman. It ruins the dynamic of football, when opposition players perform supernaturally. Oh, and add that to the fact that the goalkeepers in this game are shocking. And that, no matter who your striker, no matter how much (or little) pressure he’s under, no matter where you aim, EVERY shot ALWAYS goes straight to the keeper. Gone are the days where you could slot 1-on-1s into the corners. Now, shots all go straight down the centre. It’s appalling.
