Konami ‘Trying Harder To Combat Cheating’

Thanks to Maremas for the heads up.

Today Konami posted on their facebook page they are trying harder to combat cheating in PES 2012 online competitions, and have successfully banned people already.

Read the full statement below:

IMPORTANT MESSAGE REG CHEATING: We play PES 2012 Online in the office and at home and just like you continue to experience some really bad sportsmanship. Let’s be clear on this: Cheating, intentional disconnecting, scoring own goals, none of this should be tolerated. We have to do and will do more to stop players ruining our experiences.

It’s an issue that runs deeper than PES, but we have already banned some cheaters and we’ll crack down harder. We’re also looking at additional measures so we, the real fans, can have an enjoyable online experience. We’ll report back, but in the meantime play fair and square even in the face of cheaters – for the love of the game!

    luckly not come across with the cheating. looks like these statements are the in thing at the moment, with EA dice doing same thing.
    lets hope they catch a some, thought they would of put in statement how long the bans are, for added effect

    This is simple. Cloud Saving. Compulsory cloud saving for online profile.
    Monitor money growth in mlo before every match.
    Blacklist cheaters so they only get to play against cheaters like in Marvel vs Capcom 3.

    Improve the AI so those who are frustrated with online can enjoy offline.

    Analyze matches at half time or auto forfeit after 2 og (Deflected og dont count only passing and dribble into the net og).
    Show onscreen warning every time connection level drops especially if withing a few minutes of goal scoring.
    Offenses committed towards the end of games / close games penalize you harder.

    Punish bad sportsmanship with timed bans. Reduced player forms and more injuries to their teams. Make the game bad for them.

    Allow players to quit within the first 15 minutes if connection is bad for free.
    In game punishments could be applied in the next half or in the next match.
    Inform both players when 1 is cheating. If both players cheat each other. Reduce their ratings but don’t punish.
    Reset or subtract leader board rating or temporarily freeze their progression too.

    A lot of people disconnect while playing a match, but I (!) get penalized!

    Yeah the servers are really bad. When I play online I get the message: Lost connection to the server. And then I get penalized!!!! Now I am banned at the rankings because i’ve completed 60% of the last 10 games. This is really frustrating for me and Konami needs to fix this problem.

    That’s not because of the servers, it’s your and your opponents connection. Games are P2P.

    It can’t be my connection, because the videos I stream while I play will be interrupted. Try not to assume you have the correct answer.

    @Chuk dude maybe try not streaming videos when you’re playing, it’s possible it’s putting extra pressure on your connection affecting the quality of both. Can’t hurt to test this out and see :).

    and as for the cheaters…. it’s seriously annoying when you’re 3-0 up before half time and the person just quits. There is still a whole other 10 min half to play! If you lose you lose but don’t quit, man up and take the defeat.

    I’ve done that for the previous PES and do it with the current FIFA without problems. Unless they have undergone a downgrade, I can’t explain the disconnections. But, I’ll do what you suggest and see what happens.

    i think half the time it is fixed – by konami or xbox… i dunno.

    so many times i am playing people with low ratings and obviously crap players. and i miss about 3 or 4 easy chances. then they get a lucky goal from a corner or something near the end.

    other times i am playing aginst someone with higher ratings than me, and it seems quite a close game (i dont know if they face the same problems of the players being slow or reactions slowing down as i do against lower ranked opposition) and then i will beat them with a fairly lucky goal.

    i also remember one game when it was lagging quite badly (aginst a lower rated player) and the ball just seemed to move towards my goal randomly even when not kicked – it just changed direction almost like a magnet was attracting it.

    do they handicap players? or is it just a fix?

    @Chuk hmm it does seem strange then, any luck after trying that tho? If not then I don’t know what to tell you, it’s possible if you’re playing someone from another continent that the connection may not be perfect. Sometimes a connection will be bad and then I will be disconnected and get a ‘match abandoned as connection quality has severely worsened’ or something along those lines, but mostly when I’m connected I don’t have problems, sometimes the odd laggy match but it’s rare, I’m on 360 tho. Do you play on xbox360 or PS3 mate?

    Matchmaking for MLO needs improving big time … I have quit games on occassions due to be rated 386 (approx) in div 5 with a near default team and get paired with div 1 players or players with teams worth 100mill upwards. I even have every setting to try and match with similar players and nothing seems to work.

    I don’t mind playing better teams but the majority of them play so much one route football or abuse your team with speed merchants its not even funny.. PES 2011 was fun in mlo even if you lost 10-0 (profit made it worthwhile aswell) but pes 2012 just isn’t.

    I am a potential target for a ban but the problem is game just doesn’t match you with anyone close to your rating/skill/team asset etc.
